scuzzlebutt Posted March 25, 2003 Posted March 25, 2003 http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,82115,00.html How in the world do they track these jammers down? I understand how they work but how can troops combat these things? "We surrender" -France www.francesucks.com Quote
Rebel Black Bart Posted March 25, 2003 Posted March 25, 2003 To be able to jam anything it has to put out a signal and the Gov sat's pick that up and pinpoint the general area where that signal is coming from. Two wrongs are only the beginning. Quote
+Allen_L Posted March 25, 2003 Posted March 25, 2003 It looks like they aren't very effective jammers from Yahoo news quote:"I am also pleased to say they had no effect on us. In fact we destroyed one of the jammers with a GPS weapon." Quote
The Artful Dodger Posted March 25, 2003 Posted March 25, 2003 ...when asked at a news conference about whether the army was concerned at those GPS Jammers and its effectiveness, the army spokesman said that all 5 of them were blown up .....with GPS guided weapons!!! Quote
martmann Posted March 25, 2003 Posted March 25, 2003 Also, since a GPS jammer transmits from the ground, or very near it, that's not really the direction the weapons are "looking" for a GPS signal, given the placement of the weapons antenna is optimized for reception from satellites. _________________________________________________________ If trees could scream, would we still cut them down? Well, maybe if they screamed all the time, for no reason. Quote
+majicman Posted March 25, 2003 Posted March 25, 2003 Yeah, A good weapon looks in the tail for its locational signals (very dirty pun intended!) --majicman Quote
+GEO*Trailblazer 1 Posted March 25, 2003 Posted March 25, 2003 Works like a radar detector detector.A GPS detector detector..I understand a little of the Electronics..Remember we designed the whole system to begin with.We only release what is already tested and able to be overcome. We are the 1st and the Best at all that we endevour to do!!!!!!!!!!!GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS and Guide them this does not require a GPS hee, heee, haa G.P.S.= God's Perfect Soldiers WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS *GEOTRYAGAIN* http://www.msnusers.com/MissouriTrails [This message was edited by Trailblazer # 1 on March 25, 2003 at 12:57 PM.] Quote
Kerry. Posted March 25, 2003 Posted March 25, 2003 Like any radio signal they can be easily tracked and the instructions on jammer use says "activate jammer then move quickly to a safer place" If one wants to attract (unwanted) attention then a jammer is an extremely good way to do it. Cheers, Kerry. I never get lost everybody keeps telling me where to go Quote
scuzzlebutt Posted March 25, 2003 Author Posted March 25, 2003 nonetheless, it was still careless and stupid for Russia to sell the jammers to the now ex-dictator. I also read once somewhere that GPS jammers were used in a armored tank "best of the best" competition. The jammers were used to mess up the GPS devices in the Bradleys. I guess it sort of goes to show that GPS should not be used as a only source of navagation - but as suplimentary nav. aids. "we surrender" -France www.francesucks.com Quote
