boat-only accessible caches

I spend half the year in a coastal community in Virginia. I am in a boat each day. There are a lot of cool remote sites accessible only by boat in the area.

 

Do caches like this already exist? I'm guessing absolutely YES!

I too like boat caches and mostly use a kayak to access them. I have three caches on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and although all are most easily accessed by land, water routes are by far the most beautiful way to go -- Wye Knot?, Tilghman's Fortune, and Before the Bridge. There are also two island caches up on the Susquehanna River near Havre de Grace, MD -- Lil Honey and Garrett's Island and a cache with an long beach walk or a short boat (kayak) trip in Lewes, DE -- Roosevelt Inlet cache. I've also done one on the Virginia Eastern Shore by kayak, but it is now archived -- The Dunes. This fall when the weather cools a bit I'm thinking of a couple of other great places I've visited in my Bay sailing where a cache wouldn't get visited much but would be well worth the trip out on the Bay to get to it.

I have one in the middle of the Colorado River, but due to the gov it had to be virtual.

You need to talk to Clayjar about "Hydrocaches" - I think that's about all he goes after now.

It's accessible by canoe but hasn't been submitted for approval yet because I'm tired and decided to do it tomorrow. I supposed it would be possible to hike to it but I'd certainly not recommend it.

there are a couple on table rock lake in MO. sad to say i havn't convinced my stepdad to take us over there.

Two lakes that don't allow power boats have small islands on which caches have been hidden. These make for great family canoe trips. Marooned is near several other caches including Eagle's Lair Too which is a fun multi-stage.

I boat alot here in northern calif. Does anyone no of any boat only caches up in these parts?

Don't count on a lot of logs if you do place a boat-only cache. Mine's not on an island, but the only access to it over land passes through private property. So far, only two hits (and one by land!)

One I placed, "The Sunken Treasure Of Fishtrap Lake" and one I've found "Canoe Cache" by Bobhiker. Canoe Cache is excellent!

One to be placed in a definite boat only location and another that may be accessible at low tide, but a boat would be better. One will be on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, the other near Chincoteague Virginia.

What do you consider northern? There is one on O'Neil Forbay, one in Lake Don Pedro, one on Clear Lake (if I remeber right), I'm sure there are more.

 

I also have a virtual on one of the Channel Islands in Southern Cal.

Hey thanks George. I was just up near Don pedro a few weeks ago. Going back next month , will have to look that one up. Was also at clear lake in late spring,, Good info for my next adventure to those parts.

I have (or have had or will have had) four hydrocaches in Louisiana:

• one plundered hydrocache (NOMAN),

• one existing hydrocache (Halfling a la Cache),

• one Schroedinger's hydrocache (Ferengi Wormhole), and

• one not-yet-approved hydrocache (False Profits).

 

Still, I've actually hunted some non-hydrocaches recently. My last 13 finds have been 3 normal caches, 3 event caches, and only 7 hydrocaches. (Well, I did visit my archived hydro, attempt my Schroedinger's hydro, and drop off my new hydro, so it's more like 10, but hey).
