MTBguy
Hey, I have a weather.com magnet on both of my cache pages. It tells what the weather is like here in Joplin, where the caches are. I thought it would be a great idea if more people do this, so you might have some idea what the weathe is like in a town a few miles away before you go a find the Cache. Any opinions on this??? +worldtraveler
I just looked at them, and I think it's a good idea. How do you generate the magnets? I also like the counters. Mind sharing how you did those too? Thanks. Worldtraveler Quote Link to comment
+mikemtn
How did you do that? Also it seems you have a counter that counts unique hits. I'm interested in both of these ideas. And yes It looks like a useful tool to me. Thanks, Mike Quote Link to comment
+mikemtn
I became a little bit of a geek and figured out the weather magnet. I think it's pretty cool. I have a slight concern that it could be considered advertising or something. Jeremy??? Mike Quote Link to comment
+Macro
I like the idea of having the weather on the cache page. Here's the catch... is Jeremy cool with this? Not sure how this could affect things for their network. I know that the traffic is minimal, but what is happening is that every time one of those weather links gets updated or clicked on, it has to communicate with other places on the net. So esentially, geocaching.com is hosting that on the cache page. If Jeremy is cool with it, I say go for it, but lets try to remember that its his network. Just my 2 cents Quote Link to comment
+mikemtn
Jeremy said It's OK with him if it don't break any agreements with the Weather Channel. I read their agreement the best I could and it don't appear I'm doing anything to break it. I figured out the counter too. I didm't ask him about the counter, Hope It's OK. MTBguy
I got the counter for free from Honesty.com (need to register for), and the weather magnet I signed up for for free at weather.com. (Then just copy-paste the HTML into the cache info box when you modify it.) I am glad to hear that it is OK with Jeremy. More people ought to do this, it is very useful and free. +Navdog
That is a good idea for remote cache areas or long multi-caches. I added it to our WALKABOUT cache, since it requires a three hour hike to complete "I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I intended to be." -Douglas Adams Quote Link to comment
