SlvrBack
What kind is this? Those are the real colors. I must have led a very sheltered life as I have never seen one like that before. /me isn't a woodsman anyway. LOL Quote Link to comment
+Strix
Ah ha! A naturalist question. (As a former NPS Ranger, I live for these!) Your mushroom looks like a bolete, although without getting a close look at the underside of the cap and a spore print, a positive id is impossible. If you examine the underside of the cap and see small pores instead of gills, it's a bolete. (The underside of the cap will look like spongelike, i.e., it will have many tiny holes.) There are many bolete species, most are keyed according to how the pores are arranged. Wish I could examine it more closely. "When the chips are down, the buffalo are empty." Quote Link to comment

+Strix
Some boletes are edible and very tasty! The King Bolete is renowned for its flavor. But others are deadly or will give you extreme gastrointestinal discomfort. Unless you're a competent mycologist (or with a mushroom expert you trust with your life!) never eat field mushrooms! Duh! And I'm not even gonna tell you about the hallucinagenic species...some of which are quite common. They're mine, all mine! BWHAHAHAHA! "When the chips are down, the buffalo are empty."
