What About a Geocached City Tour?

Here's a thought-- I'm proud of our home city of Berkeley and thought it might be fun to put together a series of GPS locations to spots I frequent or think are worth visiting.

So, it could be my favorite coffee spot, a good view of the town, my preferred bookstore, and so forth. As this would be like a credit card trek, it would be 'cacheless'-- just a series of waypoints that would give one a sense of Berkeley. As a couple of the spots I like are retail locations, I am certain that I could cajole the staff (whom I know to lesser or greater extent) to allow a 'cache' to be placed on their premises as a greater incentive.

What do you all think? Any ideas for implementation on this 'Waypoint Tour of Berkeley'?

Sounds fun. I know I'd enjoy it. I have thought about something similar here. I would suggest something like clues or riddles to help people zero in on the right spot. It would make it more fun, and with all the buildings, it might otherwise be hard to find the spot you intended. I think virtual caches would be fine, but if you can place some goodies, even better.

Hope it works out!

You're right-- what with the preponderance of buildings, it would be an urban hunt more than anything else.

SO clues! I like writing clues... Presumably they'd be included in the opening site...well, we'll see. Better start with a basic cache first, though!

I think it's a great idea! Even for any city/town and both locals and visitors - you can bring people to places they've never been.

Wait a minute... That's what's been happening for me with traditional cache hunting. icon_smile.gif

haha! I can see it now... Instead of complaining about tree cover - "My unit doesn't get a good lock with all the buildings around"

tions.

"Tell Leo the crack addict at the corner the 'secret password' and he'll give you the next waypoint coordinate."

But seriously, Berkeley has a lot of history, and I could time a half day's journey with some opportunities for refreshment, etc. A truly bold move would be to GPS my front gate-- and you could try to get past the dog to get to the last cache!

Unless I or my family were there.

Hmmmmmm~~~

That's sort of been my idea with Groundspeak for some time (well, entertainment as well as waypoint sharing anyway). Unfortunately (and fortunately, depending on your opinion) geocaching has been so popular my plans with Groundspeak have been waylaid.

I'm partway there though. The EasyGPS software has the capability of uploading waypoints to my site. I just need to build in the functionality to do something with these waypoints.
