Papa Bear 4 Posted July 31, 2002 Posted July 31, 2002 metal detectors? I'm thinking several? After all people who use metal detectors look for, and sometimes find caches! Quote
+Criminal Posted July 31, 2002 Posted July 31, 2002 WHAT?! It's hard enough to justify spending $400+ on a new GPS V just to find McDonald's toys.......... ><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>< What is the price of experience, do men buy it for a song, Or wisdom for a dance in the street................. +brdad Posted July 31, 2002 Posted July 31, 2002 That might work for ammo boxes, mortar tubes, and caches with coins in them, but what about plastic? Is there such a thing as a Tupperware detector? Suppose a virtual reality visor find a virtual cache? Think I'll just stick to my Etrex ... Quote

Most metal detectors will pick up any thing made of metal. The ring holding the erasor on a pensel. The metal parts of a pen. Whatever other random items with small metal parts. +Dawgies Posted August 1, 2002 Posted August 1, 2002 I have a benchmark I've been tracking down...way down I figure... Been buried and I'm pullin' out the old metal detector I bought years ago but rarely used. I know it'll pick up nails and pennies, but what about brass? We'll see! My wife is happy that I'm finally playing with my toys! ~Honest Value Never Fails~ Quote

A metal detector should find any cache in MD, DC or Virginia due to the metal ring on the CCCooperAgency's advertisements (key chains). Quote

+Olar Posted August 1, 2002 Posted August 1, 2002 If I remember correctly from my metal-detecting hobby days, you had to have the coil/pad within a max. of 12 to 18 inches to get a "hit". If you are that close to the cache then you sure don't need a metal detector to put your hands on it. Quote

iryshe Posted August 1, 2002 Posted August 1, 2002 Here's the oldest mention of metal detectors I could find in the forums. There are definitely people that have metal detectors that Geocache. Whether they actually use them while Geocaching is doubtful. Jeremy Irish Groundspeak - The Language of Location Quote
