Is there a point to this?

Hydee asked: Is there a point to this?

Yes, there is. If there were not, I wouldn't have posted the poll. The poll related to both geocaching and the forums, (though not to Vespa Scooters).

Is it appropriate to ask a question and then provide no way for that question to be answered?

Another thread gets locked down. Hmmmm….

Glad I’ve supported the site all this time!

The old thread didn't have a poll. Polls rock!

dadgum this is getting old.

I have seen plenty of post that address issues that already have threads out there. Locking threads because they don't fit your vision of what is needed is weak. The users here form the community that makes up the forums. It is sad to see what happens when someone has just a little too much power.

Is there anybody else that has grown tired of the attitude of TPTB as of late? Is there anybody else that hopes some other site comes along and gives this one some real competition? Is anybody else starting to list their caches on other sites because they feel the days of this site are numbered? Does anybody really know what time it is?

It's 3 something here. So, no, I don't really know what time it is. Exactly.

It my often-ridiculed, scarcely coherent opinion I agree that its weak to close a complaint-type post because there is a 12 page complaint type post out there already. I mean, if I ask what people have in their geocaching bags will that thread get locked??

God I hope so.

These are the only forums I've ever been a part of, and the experience has been interesting, to say the least. I don't think I'm a particularly confrontation person, but dadgum, these threads bring out the fight in me sometimes.

Whether its between cachers, admins and cachers, or admins and admins, so much discord can't be good for the soul.

I understand the usefulness of being able to lock down a thread, I mean, I cheer when a fifteen page "continue this sentence by five words" thread that has been at the top of the list for three weeks gets locked down, and then dropped down. Without the locking mechanism, the first 20 threads would always be 25 page useless junk threads.

Sometimes, however, TPTB do seem to pull the trigger (again, in my opinion) a bit too quick, or perhaps for the wrong reason(s).

Are there more intricate "bandwidth" or other techical computer jargon problems that I'm unawate of? Will a "useless" thread, or 200 useless threads for that matter, take up too much room if they continue?

I must admit though, I love to look through the forums every day and see what threads have been locked. The last few posts are usually pretty entertaining.

There are times that we may lock a thread that something good may come of it. We try to avoid that. In this case there are a few posts that may be legitimate...if the intent of the thread is to see how long we will let it go before locking, it will be locked. There have been many threads started recently with no purpose at all, or with purpose and quickly hijacked. We are working on putting a stop to it.
