McMillan Mob
Does anyone have a method of connecting a Garmin 12XL to a laptop computer to allow the screen on the laptop to be used instead of the 'tiny' screen on the GPS? I can upload and download data readily but this only gives me a one off update. Quote Link to comment
+RangerRick
I have a Garmin V and hook it up the way you want to and it works but I'm just not sure about your unit. Anyway, I loaded the Mapsource program onto my laptop. Next I hook the cable from the gps unit to the serial (or com) port on my laptop. Then I start the mapsource program. On top of the screen, I open the GPS tab and click on "Start Tracking". At that point, I can travel with the gps on my dashboard and watch my movement on the computer screen. Hopefully someone with a unit like yours will let us know if your unit works the same way. Quote Link to comment
McMillan Mob
Thanks RangeRick. I will try your method and hope it works down here in Oz. Regards Mcmillan Quote Link to comment
+Bloencustoms
It depends on the program, but I'd set the GPSr up to use "NMEA out" as your interface. That should work with most programs. With mapsource, "Garmin" will work fine, and allow you to transfer waypoints back and forth. I'm not familiar with your unit, but it works for the Etrex series.
