+Doc-Dean
Found one cache that had a family of fire ants living in it. Wouldn't have been so bad except the family was 10,000 strong. Ouch! Free your mind and the rest will follow Quote Link to comment
Bobthearch
Virtual cache to ~very~ fragile archaeological site. As a professional arch, it's one of ~the~ most fragile sites I've ever seen. I e-mailed the owner and did not receive a reply. e-mail me for more info. -Bob Quote Link to comment
ChiefPig
If it is really that fragile, you should put a "should be archived" log on the cache so the admins can review it further. Obviously, the approver did not know about the site. Quote Link to comment
+woodsters
hmmmm...that's a tough one as there have been a couple that really weren't all that great that I can remember off hand. One which was rated a 1/1 turned out to be much more. You entered a woodline right at a skatepark and once you got inside the woods, your gps would not function due to the trees. I had my dogs with me on this one. I tried entering from a different direction that was telling me it was only so far through the treeline...entered amongst a bunch of rubbish dumped in the woods. Finally found the cache hundreds of feet away and nothing in it except a couple of little used toys in it. Had to call the wife on the cell phone and make sure I was in the right area. Another one that I can remember was similar. Got out and the car and there was broken glass everywhere. Beer bottles and cans littered an area next to where a fire was. Headed towards the cache which was only a few hundred feet away and the side of the hill was covered with rubbish, mattresses and the sort. The cache was hidden under some of the rubbish. Instead of putting that in the hint, the hint was bring a garbage bag with you! You needed more like a few trucks to haul out all that stuff. I don't mind finding a cache in areas that may not be great looking, but please don't place them near dumpsites and amongst the rubbish. DocJ
My worst wasn't actually a bad cache had it not been for the LARGE diamondback rattlesnake guarding it. Quote Link to comment

Bobthearch
2nd worst was caching in Southern Illinois. Poinson ivy, nearly microscopic seed ticks, and mosquitos. Sores are beginning to clear up finally after a month. I'm not picking on Southern Illinois, it's very beautiful there and at least half of the U.S. is just as bad. Just wish I went Late Fall or Winter... Best Wishes, Bob Quote Link to comment
+Planet
I think there were a couple I didn't like - not for the area but for the cache container. Gladware just doesn't cut it. And there have been quite a few wrapped in garbage bags or ripped up camouflaged clothing that just get nasty, filled with muck and mud and creepy crawleys, which I normally don't touch, but a cacher's gotta do what a cacher's gotta do! I don't think I've ever visited a cache in an area I didn't like. But then, I picked them out didn't I? Planet Quote Link to comment

I didn't realize I was going to need to (didn't decrypt the hint until after there) and didn't bring any bags. That was one of those didn't know I was going to do it type of caches. That was more than a simple trash out cache. Brian www.woodsters.com My Stats Found: 70 Hidden: 2 Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
It's the caches I'll never do. You know where they archive it because the spot is ready to fall down due to extreme sensitivity, and so they hide it from the world until it does. That way nobody enjoyed it and we are all better off for it. Hooah! Those caches annoy me the most. Not because they exist, but because they have been archived. Quote Link to comment
+amishangel
There was was one event I would care to not have a repeat. Grass high as your chin, and you can't see your fool feet very well. Wife told me she could hear a few rattlesnakes buzzing. I'm 100% deaf by the way in the sound range snakes rattle make and can't hear them. Just as I got GPS to zero guess what I found myself standing over besides the cache. A six foot rattlesnake had just about got wrapped tight enough to make a go ahead and tap me with it's teeth. Didn't make it however, I shot it with the .45cal from a stand up, look down and boom. Must have not been more than two feet away. Amishgal and Amishgurl and I almost walked on water getting out of there. Quantum materiae materietur marmota monax si marmota monax materiam possit materiari? Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
This one and this one are incredibly lame. "You can't make a man by standing a sheep on his hind legs. But by standing a flock of sheep in that position, you can make a crowd of men" - Max Beerbohm Quote Link to comment

mortonfox
There was a cache that was full of mud somewhere on my trip to Virginia. I checked the logs and saw that the previous finder also reported it as full of mud 3 months ago. I saw a few other damp or broken caches during the week but this one stood out in my mind. +BlueDeuce
Just ones that were abandoned by their owners and left to deteriorate to the point of becoming trash. I've asked to adopt a multi but haven't received a reply from the TPTB. I can't save them all. Quote Link to comment
+Jamie Z
One that comes to mind, but certainly not the only lame cache I've found, is one I found during PaterQuest in Mississippi. It was in a great state park, and included a fairly decent hike into the forest. Something most caches miss. That was the good part. Anyway, the cache description said something about "put this cache together at the last minute." Boy, they got that right. Several of the logs mentioned inaccurate coordinates, and indeed... when I finally found the thing (no thanks to the useless hint) my GPS told me I was something like 80 feet away. The container was a medium sized tupperware clone that had faired badly in the elements. Inside was a couple torn sheets of paper for a logbook (the cache page mentions the lack of a logbook!) and a few empty easter egg shells and some Mardi Gras beads. The kicker was an airplane toy that was broken. When I got home to log my find, I saw that the people before me said "Took (something) and left toy airplane." Yeah. A broken toy airplane. I emailed the owners and never heard back. why even bother placing a cache? Jamie Quote Link to comment

+The Daniel Boone Gang
One of our earlier caches we found consisted of an alergy pill, a cigarette, some mushy dog treats, a pen, and I think an old golf ball. A real jem. As it was one of our first, we were just happy to find it We tossed out the bad stuff (which was basically tipping the tupperware upside down and giving it a good shake) and did a TNLN. I'm sure when the cache was set up, it was probably well stocked, but even with some of my own caches, I've noticed that some people are really hurting for dollar store stuff - "took rolex & gold bar, left old pen". While the fun is in the find, for the kids (or kid in all of us), it's fun to do a swap. People that leech from a cache ruin it for everyone else. Oh ya, there were used shotgun shells all around the place too. Quote Link to comment
+JMBella
First one that comes to mind: OK, you know how you hate Gladware? Well this cacher didn't even have the ambition to go buy a pack of the through away containers. The loot consisted of moldy, broken, nasty sh!t. And it was all just thrown in a couple of small shopping bags. TNLNSL&KI... Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and kicked it. I just look at this guys other caches. Seems he has a habbit of not maintaining his caches. Most of the logs say the cache is in bad shape, wet, nasty etc... Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. Because now I am Lost. +shuccrum
I found one in Colorado where there were lots of prarie dog holes. A snake had shed its skin in one. Then we saw where another snake had shed its skin going down a hole. When we saw the 3rd snake skin, we got out of there quick! "You're just jealous because the voices are talking to me." And it was all just thrown in a couple of small shopping bags. -- you're sure that was a log book and not the diary of a homeless person? Anyway. Worst so far is a micro on the front of a bar & restaurant. Apparently the hider really liked the place, but it didn't look like anything special to me. Many log entries read "this is it?" I'll go after micros, but not with the same enthusiasm as regulars, particularly those with TBs. Geocaching to me is a blend of place and treasure. They really are mini-adventures for the MC. Not of the scope of Jason sailing for the Golden Fleece, but good enough for folks who want to be home (usually) by the time the streetlights come on. Quote Link to comment
