Wasting my time by posting to this thread...

...Not all who wander are lost... unless the batteries in their GPS die, their maps get ruined by rainwater when their pack leaks, and they find themselves in a laurel thicket. Then, they are probably lost.

why is this thread's subject nine words long?

Too bad I'm too uncreative to write one...

Hey Brian, did that really happen to you?

Team Kender - "The Sun is coming up!" "No, the horizon is going down."

Yup. I pulled an Al Pacino (Scarface) and introduced them to my 'little friend'. Him and his 19 friends caused the drunks to think twice about their coincidentally hollow threats. Thankfully, not a shot was fired and I didn't even have to say a single word to them.

So I took some creative license with the 8 words. icon_smile.gif

Brain, but what about your "Duty to retreat?"

I read your post and it troubles me.

You could have gotten popped for "brandishing" here.

What are the defense laws in your state?

Others may read your post, think it's okay.

They should know the laws in their state.

...unless they get into trouble with the police.

The situation was, I was in a position where retreat wasn't an option. Had they come around, I'd have been cutoff with no time to escape/evade. As far as 'brandishing' goes, I disagree. I'm tall, but thin. There were 4 of them, each with a couple inches and about 90lbs on me. The odds were in their favor, escalating my potential use of force to equal what I was up against. Threats to use weapons against me also left me with the understanding that I was completely justified in my actions.

Don't get me wrong. In a situation where I have an escape, you bet I will.

I work for a law enforcement agency, so you can bet I'm more conscientous of what I do when out and about and I'm carrying.

That's all I needed to know. Thank you.

I think a lot of people don't realize there's "duty to retreat." I just didn't want people to get the impression that displaying the weapon was the better choice. Other than that, I think you handled it very well.

Some of the things we run into caching!

Makes my heart skip at times just knowing.

This weekend we will try for eight caches.

They are "waterfront property" 1, 2, 3, 4.

Oh yes, and also 5, 6, 7, 8.

All of them are micro caches, not traditional.

What do you think about this cache type?

Generally I don't spend much time on them.

But this weekend we'll give some a try.

Perhaps it will even end up being fun.
