+GOT GPS? Posted October 18, 2003 Share Posted October 18, 2003 I drove 30 miles this morning, and it never worked once(never got a signal). What I found out is that when the GPS is powering up, you cant touch any buttons, and it's best to get a lock on the sats before getting into the car with it. It does not like movement, when it's locating the sats after powerup. I've encountered this at least twice with my GPSV over the last year or so. I could leave it on for hours and ZIP -- not even a blip on the Satallite page. I think it must be some sort of software glitch. I found that powering down and resetting the unit caused it to snap out of it. Jolly R. On the road, especially near major intersections (NJ Tpke nearing the G.W. Bridge, for example) it gets confused about where I am and becomes temporarily useless, but for the most part it is a great unit. I used it for the first time today for geocaching, and it was fine. Only time I lose signal is while I'm caching in really thick woods. Two roads diverged in yellow wood..... You know, if Frost had been a cacher he would have never have had reason to write this poem. smithcon Posted October 21, 2003 Share Posted October 21, 2003 My V has had no problems like this for over a year in heavy use for navigation and occasional geocaching. I have had the DC power problem, which I could probably fix by taping the batteries to prevent shakage on bad roads, but it has not been frequent enough for me to bother. Quote Link to comment
