AlphaOp
An ode to my Garmin-3. I remember a few years ago, hell, about six, my dad purchaced the Garmin-III GPS from Eastern Mountain Sports for a whopping $300. In these six years we've been using it, it's proven again and again that it was worth every penny my dad invested in it. If they would only make other things like Garmin makes it's GPS units. Easy to use, reliable, and rugged as all get-out. I can't wait till the next generation of units come out, I've become a Garmin user for life. I'm waiting for a GPS with enough memory and processing power to "virtualize" one's location, like the "highway" view, but with topography shown in 3-d. +Firefishe
<snip quotes> Ooooooohhh... I'm waiting for a GPS with enough memory and processing power to "virtualize" one's location, like the "highway" view, but with topography shown in 3-d. <snip end sig> Well, DeLorme has their TopoUSA software [http://www.delorme.com/topousa/default.asp] that has side-by-side, 2D/3D views of up-to-date topographical maps. I am currently working on a gps project that would allow a similar capability on the gps unit itself; in fact, that would be a leading benefit of the unit. AlphaOp
Now that is cool... $99... plus a DVD-ROM version... hmm. A little pricey... but still, lots of neat stuff there. That would be awesome to have the kind of capability on a GPS unit.
