taylortd
My buddy and I were using the headsets last weekend and they were working great until we got about a 1/4 mile apart. At that distance we started not being able to hear each other. Our VOX settings were on quiet. We were line of site on a lake btw. Would changing them to 7-10 make a difference on signal strength? Or is the VOX only for activation sensitivity? thanks, todd Quote Link to comment
+EScout
Not familiar with the Rino, but on radios with VOX, the adjustment is a sensitivity adjustment that opens the mic to transmit. So, as long as it lets you transmit, it will not affect the range of the signal. Quote Link to comment
able2ru
The vox sensitivity adjustment is for what loudness to key the mic. When you reach the range that the vox isn't working, have one of you set your radio to monitor and see if you can still hear the other unit. If you can clearly hear the other unit, then there might be a problem with the recieve squelch being too high. If you can barely hear him over the white noise, then the transmitters may be weak or antennae problems. 1/4 mile LOS should still have a loud and clear signal. Quote Link to comment
