Map Reading

I've looked around and I can't find a subject on this. In the year or so I've owned my GPS, I've learned alot about using it.

I think what I need to know now, is how to read a map. I'd like to be able to look at my GPS, get my coordinates, and see where I am on the map. I don't have a GPS that has a built in map. I don't want to go to that expense. I do have NG's Topo! Where can I go to find more info?

What I do today is Important - I spent a day in my life doing it.

Here is a link to a site with a handy tool.I use the grid overlay tool with USGS 1:24000 topo maps and it's very easy! Some maps need grid lines drawn in but thats no problem.http://www.maptools.com/index.html
