+Lost & Found
I've looked around and I can't find a subject on this. In the year or so I've owned my GPS, I've learned alot about using it. I think what I need to know now, is how to read a map. I'd like to be able to look at my GPS, get my coordinates, and see where I am on the map. I don't have a GPS that has a built in map. I don't want to go to that expense. I do have NG's Topo! Where can I go to find more info? What I do today is Important - I spent a day in my life doing it. Quote Link to comment
Idaho Ron
You need to lok up info on the UTM system. After you know how to use this system you can use a small ruler to get your location on a map. I use it a lot. Ron Quote Link to comment

Alphawolf
If you will be using mostly USGS Topo maps, then the UTM grids will be, by far, the easiest to learn and use! Here is a link to a pretty good article:Using UTM "The Alphawolf" Quote Link to comment
oldephraim
Here is a link to a site with a handy tool.I use the grid overlay tool with USGS 1:24000 topo maps and it's very easy! Some maps need grid lines drawn in but thats no problem.http://www.maptools.com/index.html Quote Link to comment
