Growley Posted April 2, 2003 Posted April 2, 2003 While completing my nightly Ebay search last evening a found a new product that GPSGEEK is selling. Available for different models of GPS (Although a Garmin 76 or 76S was pictured) is a neoprene case with a plastic see-through window much like the version available from The GPS Store. Instead of having an open top, it appears the bottom of the case has a zipper closer. Check it out, this might be just what you need to protect your GPS from your next fall. I am a very satisfied multiple-time customer of GPSGEEK products from Ebay so I thought I would pass this on. Quote
+Tubby Rower Posted April 2, 2003 Posted April 2, 2003 I have the case that you are talking about. My 72 fits snuggly in it. On the back of the case is a velcro strap for a bike handle bar. It also has a clip if you want to clip it to your backpack or belt loop. The only drawback that I have seen so far is that its hard to push the rocker switch in the direction that you want. I guess that it needs to be broken in. But when I get to a cache site, I just unzip it and remove the gps and walk around until I find the cache (sometimes over 2 hours ). Overall I'm very happy with it. GPSgeek's eBay store kc row, row, row your boat Quote
+phantom4099 Posted April 2, 2003 Posted April 2, 2003 So any one know if a meridian would fit in it? What name does it list on top of the case, I can not tell from the picture. Wyatt W. The probability of someone watching you is directly proportional to the stupidity of your actions. Quote
Growley Posted April 2, 2003 Author Posted April 2, 2003 The name on the top of the case is "Gilsson". There is a website under construction at this name which will be selling GPS Stuff. I think is is GPSGeek's. Quote
geoStrider Posted April 2, 2003 Posted April 2, 2003 I've got this case too and have made a few prior posts about it. There are a few minor drawbacks: 1) the clear vinyl screen window does cover the click stick. No amount of "breaking in" will make it easier to use the stick; however, the simple remedy is to use a paper hole punch to place a clean cut hole over the click stick. This allows full use of the stick while still providing better protection than the Garmin covers. No need to remove the GPS once at a cache. 2) the zipper is at the bottom, not the top. This is a design error in my view. This means there is no access to the connector port when the case is on. This will be an inconvenience if you use aux power. It also means that GPSr must come out of the cover for downloads, etc. One really great feature is the velcro loop strap on the back. I "unpeel" it and then stick the unit to my dashmat for easy viewing while driving. All in all, I think this is the best option out there for covers. It provides excellent protection from scratches to the entire unit and the resilient neoprene provides an additional level of protection in the case of drops, crashes, etc. Check it out Follow-up comment: I should point out that I have a Legend, so the bottom zipper may not be a problem for some other units. OuttaHand Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 I e-mailed them regarding a possible cover for my Rino 120. They answered back very quickly saying they are in process of designing one for that -- but the shape of it is slowing the process. He asked for any suggestions I had in its design so I replied with some thoughts I had on what I wanted in a cover. My overall impression was that they are concerned about making a quality product that will work well for the user. Hopefully, a Rino cover isn't far off! Quote
+Beagle Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 Correct me if I'm wrong, but I see the same problem with this case as I do with the lanyard that comes with the 76 and the 76S. Looking at the picture. the backback/belt HOOK and the Garmin lanyard both attach to the bottom of the receiver. So if you let it hang from the lanyard or the hook provided on the case, it is upside-down. The WORST possible position for good reception sine your antenna would then be positioned to listen to the ground. And the last time I checked, Planet Earth does a fairly poor job of reflecting satellite signals... Beagle As soon as you idiot proof something, they go and make a better idiot! Quote
mingho Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 Thank you so much for your product feedbacks. We wished you had sent your remarks to feedback@gilsson.com, so our product development team could incorporate your suggestions. We had designed it towarded downward because the customers we surveyed would like to see the map withOUT removing the GPS from the beltloop. We had placed the zipper on the bottom side of the eTrex because there isn't enough room between the side bottons to install a zipper due to the need for additional space on both ends of the zipper (from the perspective of the sewing person). With respect to the click-stick on the eTrex models, our very next shipment would include a pre-punched hole for the click-stick. We are very grateful of these feedbacks, as we are most interested in designing the best GPS products out there. These neoprene cases are the result of many sample design revisions. Even in its present form, our neoprene cases are the only cover-all neoprene cases for Garmin GPS units, in the world. Please email me directly at ming@gilsson.com if you have additional feedbacks, so I can forward them to the appropriate person within the company. Thanks ! Kindest regards, Ming Ho Gilsson Technologies - GPSgeek www.gpsgeek.com http://store.yahoo.com/gilsson Quote
