brin
Is there any way to make the screen brighter for my tired old eyes on my new Garmin etrex legend? Or an after market magnifier? (there should be)! Maybe it's just me, but the screen is really a challenge to read! Or am I alone I this one? don't look back, someone may be gaining on you! Quote Link to comment
+Team Teuton
You can adjust the contrast Main Menu: Setup: Display It is a small screen though. I've been going in circles my whole life. May as well make a hobby of it. Quote Link to comment
brin
I know about the contrast adjustment...... That just doesn't bring it up to a brightness level that would help. Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
I don't know of any setting other than the contrast. I don't have a problem with the Legend's screen, but my wife does, so I guess you aren't alone. It seems the e-Trex series may not be the GPS for people with poor eyes. The Magellan screens I've seen have worse resolution than the Garmin, so maybe a unit like the Map 75S would be the better choice for people who have trouble with the small display. RastaDave
Eureka! I just had a brainstorm about the magnifiers they use for Game Boy systems. I'm sure with a little modifying, that would do the trick. They sell for pretty cheap. Quote Link to comment
+BGunner01
Your tired old eyes and mine too. I have the same problem with my Legend. As much as I like it, the high resolution (and small) screen can be a challenge to read and the contrast adjustment doesn't quite take it where it needs to be. I'm anxious to hear if your magnifier brainstorm works out - keep us informed. Until then, I guess I'll just keep carrying/using my narrow little reading glasses that fold into a plastic case about the size of a large ink pen. Good Luck! Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
I've also seen small, plastic magnifiers used for magnifying print for people with poor eyesight. They're slightly larger and about as thick as a credit card. I put one in one of my caches. I think it was a freebie from Barnes & Nobel a few years ago. Perhaps you can find something similar in a catalog that is devoted to readers. "You can only protect your liberties in this world, by protecting the other man's freedom.
