Capt'N Cache Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 Can someone please tell me what a card reader is? Also, for those of you who have a Meridian series GPS, which size SD card do you recommend buying? Is 32mg enough or do you tend to use up more than this? Quote
cachethenation Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 A SD Reader is simply a device that usually plugs into one of your usb ports and then you insert the secure digital card into it and then you can look at files on the card and you can also write files to the card. When you plug it in it will show up as another drive on your computer. The main advantage of this is speed. It will write a large map file within seconds as compared to the serial connection that would take way longer. I have a 32mb card and the topo cd and with points of interests, street detail, and topo information it only takes about 10mb for most of missouri so I think that 32mb would be plenty. Capt'N Cache Posted February 24, 2003 Author Posted February 24, 2003 Thanks alot for the info, have a great day! Quote
+embra Posted February 24, 2003 Posted February 24, 2003 While a 32MB card will probably be big enough for most of us, the 64MB cards are usually priced only a little bit more. Price both, anyway, and then decide. Some like to have a *lot* of information on their cards and may want the 128MB and up. But I think I will comfortably live within my 64 for a good while (and I *could* have gotten a 32, but it's nice having the extra space). Max Often wrong but seldom in doubt Quote
+The Commissar! Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 Best Buy has a Sandisk reader w/128 SD card for $50. How can you pass that up...I got the entire SE USA on a 128 card for my MeriPlat! Quote
