SporTrac Pro & Toshiba laptop

I just bought a new SporTrac Pro and a new Toshiba laptop. The cable to connect the gps unit to the laptop does not have a connector that matches any on my laptop. The cable ends with a 9-pin (serial port?) connector but my laptop does not have one of these. Just 4 USB ports, a parallel port, J-5 LAN, phone connector and a 15-pin connector. Aren't laptops supposed to have serial ports?

Yes, but the newer ones have abandoned the tried an dtrue serial port for those new fangled sometimes they work and sometimes they don't USB ports. (windows is usually the problem) I think that there are usb to serial converters. You could do a web search.

Thank you for the prompt answer I think I have found an adaptor from Staples that will suffice. $83.00 for a little adaptor is expensive though.

$83 for usb-serial adapter is absurd. Keep shopping. Or try:
