GladesCacher
I have been using USA Photo Maps to download from TerraServer. It has worked perfectly until today when i tried to download new tiles i got the following error: "Its been written to download error.htm because it is not a jpeg" When i switch to topo view, i can download normally. Is this a temproary problem on the TerraServer end, or does the USA Photo Maps software need an update?? ADDENDUM: Apparently this has been found to be a TerraServer problem. Quakemap posted the following link for terra-server issues, not specific to USAPhotoMaps. The link is: http://ubbx.Groundspeak.com/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=5726007311&f=7116058331&m=97860006 Thanks in advance Charlie [This message was edited by GladesCacher on May 26, 2003 at 12:34 PM.] [This message was edited by GladesCacher on May 26, 2003 at 12:43 PM.] [This message was edited by GladesCacher on May 27, 2003 at 12:13 AM.] Quote Link to comment
+Team Lightfoot
I'm also having the same trouble today with quakemap which also uses terraserver maps. The error i'm receiving leads me to believe that the files have been moved to a new address. I've got an email off to the author of quakemap. I suspect the problem with both programs have the same root. I hope this is resolved soon since I registered Quakemap only last night, and then this morning everything broke on it. +Team Lightfoot
Yep, right after I posted that last message I did some checking and confirmed my suspicion. see Here I don't imagine this will be too hard to fix in the programs. Quote Link to comment

+quakemap
Microsoft is moving Terraserver to a different location. http://terraserver-usa.com/About.aspx?n=AboutMoving As of now, TerraServer web services seem to be down. As part of this move, we will modify QuakeMap to reflect the change. We are working on it now. An updated version of QuakeMap will be made available as soon as we can resolve this issue. I guess, every software using Terraserver will need to be updated when the services are brought back up. This is because the domain name is changing. Happy updating, http://www.quakemap.com - redefining Easy... Quote Link to comment

I was able to play with my registered copy of quakemap last night before terraserver went down. It's a really powerful application for the money. It's also cool to see so many developers of these great apps frequenting the forum and listening to our requests. Quote Link to comment
+quakemap
I opened a new topic with distinct name "Terraserver is down - so are all programs that use it" here: http://ubbx.Groundspeak.com/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=5726007311&f=7116058331&m=97860006 Please post your terrasrver-related messages there, so that people are not thinking that it is only USAPhotoMaps problem (ExpertGPS and QuakeMap are affected as well), and all terraserver users can participate in brainstorming. Thank you. http://www.quakemap.com - redefining Easy... Quote Link to comment

+blindleader
Funny, I haven't had any problems downloading tiles with USAPhotoMap. This is only a guess, but perhaps Teraserver redirects the url request to the new server and older versions of PhotoMap don't handle the redirect. Looking a gift horse in the mouth: What bothers me about Terraserver, besides the age of many of the photos, is the big chunks of bad data in the South Puget Sound area. There are a couple of rectangles bigger than five square miles, for which no photos are available. A couple of even bigger chunks in which the photos are just noise. Then there's a twelve square mile area centered on Olympia where the photos are of some other area entirely. Quote Link to comment
+Cachetrotters
I may be wrong, but I think my ExpertGPS and others store downloaded tiles locally. If you're retrieving a location you've already seen, then the pix are available from the drive. Yes, No, Maybe? don Quote Link to comment
+quakemap
Same applies to QuakeMap, it stores tiles locally and still shows you places which you visited before the move (or when you are just disconnected). The difference is that ExpertGPS and PhotoMapUSA do not use web services at all, they calculate layout internally. So they just go to terraserver for the actual tiles - this is working all right now. Using terraservice is an advantage in normal circumstances, because it allows to display extra information about the layout (which is returned by the web service) and eliminates possible miscalculations. The drawback is that when the web service is down, QuakeMap turns blind too. I guess they will bring web services back soon (couple of days) and things get back to normal. Meanwhile we are digging into local layout computation - wrong way to go in general, but useful for disconnected mode. http://www.quakemap.com - redefining Easy... Quote Link to comment
+quakemap
Terraserver Web services are back on line and an updated version of QuakeMap is posted at http://www.quakemap.com Please use download link there or regular Update process of QuakeMap. Waypoints manager is improved to show Pocket Queries detail and sort waypoints by distance. CR, you will like better handling of popups. Skippy2
Problems. Always problems. I went to your site to download the new version of QuakeMap and was advised I needed Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 to run it - So I charged off in search of it. I guess I don't know what I'm looking for because when I went to the Microsoft site (hot-linked on your page) I found myself wallowing around in all sorts of patches, updates etc for Microsoft Internet Explorer. After dilligent search, I did fin one link that actually had the words "Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1" but it turned out to be a SDK (Software Developers Kit?????) package. That isn't what I want, is it? I'm just an end user not a software developer or programmer. So, where might I obtain/download the .NET Framework file that you refer to on your page? Thank you. +quakemap
First of all, make sure you NEED to update by following the "click here to see if it is installed on your computer" link on the Download page. You will be fine if either 1.0 or 1.1 version is installed. Second, the Support FAQ directs you to Windows update page first ( http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com ), and if you need to learn details - to http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/downloads/howtoget.aspx Windows update will offer you Framework 1.1 installation - good to have it, but if you have 1.0 installed, don't bother. All frameworks go to C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFramework, you can see them there. I hope this helps. http://www.quakemap.com - redefining Easy... Quote Link to comment
