Guest Rubbertoe
I'm very new to the game here, and I just today got my first GPS receiver - an Eagle Explorer. Very basic, no maps or 'extra' features. BUT - What I know I will soon be wanting, is something with a little more bang - something that I can take on a motorcycle ride for an afternoon, then come back and dump the data from the receiver into some sort of software program that will be able to spit out a detailed map of where I was, when, for how long, etc. Something similar to what this guy is selling on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1606435198 (The DataLogger II?) I don't necessarily need to have real-time maps on the GPS itself, but the software that appears to come with that eBay auction looks pretty slick. Keeps track of times, locations, durations, etc. So, with that basic little rant about what I'll be looking for soon, can anyone offer a good suggestion of a GPS unit, perhaps even one bundled with it's own software? Any info is appreciated. Rob Quote Link to comment
Guest Prime Suspect
Most GPSs already do this. You could buy a basic eTrex, or something like a used II+, and save yourself a lot of money. Then you just need a data cable (included with some models), and software like Street Atlas USA. Just upload your tracks, and Street Atlas will show you exactly where you've been, drawn on a detailed map. Quote Link to comment
