long/lat format conversion

Your coordinates are in degrees and decimal points of degrees. Our unit accepts degrees, minutes and decimal parts of minutes (radians). Is there any easy conversion chart or download we can use other than having to do the math to convert?

Actually, the coordinates here are in degrees and decimal minutes (DD° MM.MMM' format). You shouldn't have to do any math to enter those into your unit. Also, you can download a free copy of EasyGPS from the site and then download the coordinates of any caches in which you are interested, then upload them to your unit (provided your unit is supported by the application). No manual entry then!

Also, you don't mention what unit you have, but most have an option to change the format of coordinates.

Just to clarify, radians are not the same as decimal minutes. A radian is the angle between two radii of a circle such that the length of the arc between them is equal to the radius. The circumference of a circle is equal to 2n times the radius, so one radian contains 360/(2n) = 180/n = approximately 57.2958 degrees. Conversely, multiplying the number of degrees by n/180 gives the number of radians; 360 degrees equals 2n radians.

Thanks..I'm sending your reply to my husband..because he is the one who was having trouble with the gps. He set up some kind of formula in Excel and could convert one at a time..He wanted something that would do a group.

His gps is 6 years old..a very pricey model, he bought when he had a boat. It may be that it can't do what you are talking about. I'm not sure of the brand name.

Thanks !
