replacing memory battery in Garmin II+

First time poster. I have started getting "memory battery status low" (or whatever it says) on my Garmin II+, which is almost 2 years old. Rather than send it in, I figured I would remove the six screws, pull it apart and replace the lithium wafer battery, assuming that is what is there.

Has anyone ever done this, and is the battery easily removed and replaceable?

Thanks!

The battery is soldered in place but apparently not too hard to replace (haven't done it personally). The cell is reportedly a Panasonic UL1220 rechargeable lithium 13 mm wafer cell. However, there have been indications that in many cases the problem is actually with the charging circuit that is supposed to recharge this cell rather than a defective cell, so it may go dead again. My inclination would be to contact Garmin first and see if they'll do it under warranty - they've extended it for the battery problem in the past.
