Marky
I wanted to do a poll of Meridian Platinum owners to get a feel for how well the electronic compass works for them. If you have had any success stories on how you got yours working consistently, please reply with a note! I'd love to get mine working. --Marky Quote Link to comment
Stunod
One thing that annoys me a bit is that you have to recalibrate every time you change the batteries. Not sure why that is. Never works well in the car...too much steel I guess...but works fine in the field. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand." Quote Link to comment
dthigpen
Yes, I have problems with it being 180 degrees wrong at times (odd, eh?), but that seems to be when I'm around some of these rocks in Southern California. When I'm not around rocks, it works perfectly (Tested alongside my lensatic), odd, eh? Doug. Quote Link to comment
Marky
Yeah, I've had very odd behavior, like walking along a trail not bouncing or anything like that, and have the compass go 180 on me and not switch back. Some times, I've been unable to get it to switch back even after removing the batteries, replacing them, and then recalibrating. I just don't get it. Right now, I have mine in 'gold' mode (i.e. I turned off the magnetic compass and use the GPS one). It's so much smoother and I can pretty much always tell how to hold the GPS even when I'm stopped because of the sun icon. I've gotten to where I kinda like it the way it is now. --Marky Quote Link to comment
TeamCNJC
I ordered a MeriPlat, had it for a few days and couldn't even get it calibrated - it would be off 20 or 30 degrees, but not consistently (i.e., dead on North, 30 degrees off East, 20 degrees off the other way South...). I called Magellan, had them walk me through a more extensive calibration procedure in the hidden menu system, but still didn't get consistent results. Returned it through my vendor for a MeriGold, and have been completely happy without an electronic compass. -Craig/TeamCNJC ... MACpa
I had a problem with mine the day I updated the software, the compass froze, I reinstalled the software update and all is fine. on another note a couple of weeks ago I threw away my lenstatic compass because it was pointing 180 degrees off.
