Mapmaster
Look here: http://www.garmin.com/products/gps72/ It's something like a low-cost variant of the 76s. Quote Link to comment
+raouljan
More like the 76 1 meg memory quad antenna (nice to see in a low end Garmin) no mag compass no baro Quote Link to comment
Mapmaster
Oh, I meant the plural, the whole 76-series, not the 76S in particular. Quote Link to comment

+apersson850
Yes, it's to the 76 series what the Venture is in the eTrex series. Anders Quote Link to comment

+Firefishe
quote:Originally posted by na:Seems to be the old Garmin 12 in a new case. -- It's essentially a scaled-down version of the GPS 76 with WAAS! I do not know if the innards are the same as the 12, in a different case. Myself, I think they shouldn't even have brought it out, but rather put the research into a newer, more advanced unit. I guess it does fulfill a much-needed price-point, though. Warm regards, Stephen Brown (Firefishe) Quote Link to comment
+apersson850
Considering how components and production technology develop, I doubt that it's a 12 in a new package. It must be smarter for Garmin to base it on the 76, remove some features and reduce the price to what the market can tolerate. In this particular case, there is some hardware (magnetic and pressure sensor) and some memory chip to remove. Sometimes, they (not necessarily Garmin) just disable features and sell the same thing cheaper. Anders Quote Link to comment
+GOT GPS?
The 72 looks narrower than the 76, and it only has a 120x160 pixel screen. Of course the Map76 and the Map76s has alot more to them. ------------------------ My home page about GPS units and information Quote Link to comment
+apersson850
I think the narrower look from the 72 is just a - look. But the screen is perhaps less expensive, with less resolution. They do the same in the eTrex series, where the basic yellow/Camo/Summit has less resolution than Venture/Legend/Vista. Anders Quote Link to comment
