+kbraband Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 It looks like the bar has just been raised for those who have to have the latest gadget. I've been thinking about getting a PDA and this new one from Garmin looks way cool. Read about it here: http://www.jsonline.com/bym/Tech/news/feb03/120822.asp I apologize in advance if this topic has been discussed. I did search for it... honestly! Quote
+arrowroot Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 It was first posted just prior to the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in January. Looks awfully spiffy. Battery life and signal pull yet to be proven. Available software will be key. I am Arrowroot, son of Arrowshirt. I have many names, you know Quote
+Renegade Knight Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 Hold off and wait for generation II. This thing is outdated already. Especially considering that mapping software EATS memory. Wherever you go there you are. Quote
peter Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 They did make a point of indicating that it would be compatible with the new 1 GB standard memory cards also announced at the CES show, so I think they're aware of the need for sufficient map capacity. In what way do you think it's outdated? The limited battery life is a concern and I hope they support an external battery pack that takes standard cells for use on longer trips away from power sources. (But it'll be easy enough to rig something up if they don't.) Quote
