Guest jmarkantes Posted February 15, 2001 Posted February 15, 2001 Heya- Anyone have any ideas on connecting a GPS to a laptop that does not have a serial port, only USB? I've had no luck locating a USB cable for my Garmin 12map. I have seen several USB->serial converters available starting around 40$. But I would like to know if anyone else has been sucessful using one of those before I spend the money. Any ideas? Thanks, Jason Quote
Guest swangner Posted February 15, 2001 Posted February 15, 2001 It should work - I haven't used the USB-serial converters for GPS, but I've used them for a bunch of other things, like my PDA cradle, and they seem to work great. Really, it's your only choice. I don't know of any GPS receiver manufacturers that are offering direct USB connectivity. Quote
Guest will_m Posted February 20, 2001 Posted February 20, 2001 Try going to http://www.pfranc.com and look under the USB to COM converter. That should help you make some kind of cable. ------------------ Now where the hell am I? Quote
Guest Krepism Posted February 20, 2001 Posted February 20, 2001 I have used this converter for my Magellen Color Track, but it did not work. Granted my unit is pretty old. I would think that $40 bucks is a bit to much anyways. Look around, or try www.pricewatch.com and see what you can find, I would not be surprised if you found it for half that.
