Guest relichound
I use a etrek Legend and just had to ask them if they were going to ever add averaging as a future software update on the legend. Also there have been a few post about problems with this unit in tree cover. I would have to say here in North Carolina we have some heavy cover in places and I very seldom lose lock with this unit. I think the trick is to get a good fix and try to leave the unit on while in the cover. This usually works very well. Below is the response from Garmin on averaging. Thanks, Relichound Thank you for your inquiry. I am not sure if this is going to be added to the Legend, though generally if you are receiving the WAAS corrections, you will get the same if not better accuracy than averaging a position. Thank you and best Regards, Stacy Derks Product Support Specialist Quote Link to comment
Guest Hawk-eye
I have a vista ... and your exactly right ... I think the key is to get that good lock (w/WAAS if possible) prior to going into the thick of it. I've used my 12Map and 12xl (both with patch antennas) and get similiar results as with the vista. The Vista is more prone to increased EPE than the 12 series under canopy ... and orientation of the antenna is a bit more critical. I'd never advised trying to get a lock cold ... with the Vista under the canopy. It's tough enought with the 12 series. With external amp. antennas it really makes a difference. I'd love to see the compact little Vista ... to grow an external antenna connection thought ... that would solve a lot of problems in the woods. Quote Link to comment

Guest Bob Bowter
ck Record Method to Time and the Interval to 1-10 seconds. Wait a while and then zoom the map down to the 80' scale and pick a point in the middle of the spaghetti. Just remember to put the record method back to Auto or will us up your Track memory in a hurry. Quote Link to comment
