raflyer Posted May 30, 2002 Posted May 30, 2002 What is the normal "error" now in the system? 20,30,40, 50 feet??? Thanks, Rob Quote
+The GeoGadgets Team Posted May 30, 2002 Posted May 30, 2002 They say its 30 feet now, but out in the "open" I have been 5' form a cache and the gps tells me I am 5'. It's all up to certain variables. "Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is." - Yoda, Jedi Master from Star Wars - Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back Quote
OFF RODE Posted May 30, 2002 Posted May 30, 2002 Garmin states non WASS or DGPS to be accurate to 15 meters (about 45') but I find my G3+ to be at least twice that accurate. At least with a good view. "You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there." Yogi Berra Quote
+apersson850 Posted May 31, 2002 Posted May 31, 2002 Besides, the accuracy figure given is not a fact. The EPE (Estimated Position Error) is usually a figure, that indicates that the probability is 50% that the error is no bigger than that. If you double your EPE, you'll be 95% sure that you are within that range. Which doesn't mean that you can't sometimes be right on the spot. Anders Quote
Kerry. Posted May 31, 2002 Posted May 31, 2002 Besides what might be "normal" the official accuracy before one starts hiding under trees, behind buildings, in canyons or entertaining geo storms is less than 13m (43 feet) 95% of the time world wide average. Expected worst case scenario is less than 36m (118 feet) 95%. Cheers, Kerry. I never get lost everybody keeps telling me where to go Quote

+NWMOhunter Posted May 31, 2002 Posted May 31, 2002 I have no idea on numbers, all I can tell you is experience. I was using my Garmin 12 (not WASS enabled) and another guy was using his Magellan Meridian (WASS enabled) looking for a cache. I was standing about 5' away from the cache and it said I was on. His GPS was leading him about 40 to 50 feet south of the cache. There is absolutely NO tree cover and it was a clear day and we were both using the same exact coordinates we downloaded from the site.
