lightcat
I'm having trouble communicating between my Garmin etrex Venture and the EasyGPS software. I've got the COMs set for either COM1 or COM3, and it's at least asking for information from the unit, but for some reason, it's not getting any information from the GPS and I get an error from the software, so I expect it may be something to do with the cable. SergZak
Check to make sure that the communication mode is set to GARMIN...from the main menu screen, select 'setup', then select 'interface' and set it to GARMIN if it's not already. Quote Link to comment
+hoovman
Did you download the EasyGPS help program "Manual.exe" from the EasyGPS website? Do you have a PalmPilot or similar PDA? If so, you have to disable your hotsync software in order to talk to your GPSr. Is your GPSr turned on? Seriously - the first time I tried to connect mine to a computer, I couldn't make it work until I realized that it has to be turned on to connect (I was used to PalmPilots that would "wake up" when the connection was made). Another thing to check is the protocol setting in your GPS and EasyGPS. I think both default to "Garmin", but it's worth making sure. If all else fails, maybe you could find a cable wiring diagram and "buzz-out" the cable to check the connections. If you need help with this once you have the wiring diagram, let me know. http://www.mi-geocaching.org/ Quote Link to comment
lightcat
Thanks for the advice, all. I think I found the problem, though. It was a piece of plastic that broke off and caught in the side that kept the adapter plug from sliding all the way in and kept the unit from communicating with the software. Once I pried the broken piece loose, problem was solved. So simple but it took me so long to find it.... Quote Link to comment
