Guest ADelikat
Hi! I'm looking to purchase my first GPS for geocaching. I would also be using it for driving. So far, I have narrowed it down to the GPS III+ and the GPSMAP 76. Could anyone tell me what the performance of the 76's external antenna in comparison with the GPS III? Thanks! Quote Link to comment
Guest canoeguy
I sell GPS units and the external antenna is designed for installation on a boat (or maybe RV) and would be hard to carry around in the woods. My advice is go with the internal antenna. ------------------ NP2BB canoeguy@backpacker.com Quote Link to comment
Guest ADelikat
Thanks for your reply. What is the performance of the 76's internal antenna like in comparison with the GPS III+? Thanks again! Quote Link to comment
Guest gstrong1
If you're going fishing, the 76. If you're going cache hunting, the III Plus. ------------------ Gary "Gimpy" Strong Rochester,NY Quote Link to comment
Guest Quinnow
actually canoeguy is quite wrong about the External Antenna being too big for the outdoors hiker or Cacher. I have the antenna as well as it is hooked up to the map76. It is about 1/3 the size of a mouse and three times lighter. You can hook it to your collar or stick it under your hat or even just cary it by hand. It without a doubt increases sat reception two fold at times. ------------------ Quinn Stone Rochester, NY.14616 www.Navicache.com Quote Link to comment
