Kerry. Posted April 1, 2003 Posted April 1, 2003 The media at present appear to be a little out of control, everything has to be related to the war. But apart from that GPS IIR-9 was launched today after a brief delay and will be known as SVN 45, which will "share" D Plane, Slot 3 with SVN 17. Cheers, Kerry. +Geosaur Posted April 1, 2003 Posted April 1, 2003 How does that new satellite's information get into your unit (Garmin Vista)? Through software update, or automagically on the fly as it becomes operational? Geosaur :: Geocaching Lizard Quote
+TeamCNJC Posted April 1, 2003 Posted April 1, 2003 It's magic! Actually, it's part of the continual almanac updating that the GPSr acquires as part of its routine. For example, SVN 56, known to all who love it as #16, as launched on 29 January, and became operational on 19 February, and became part of my drive home from work with no intervention on my part. -Craig/TeamCNJC ... +phantom4099 Posted April 1, 2003 Posted April 1, 2003 So what is the total number of Sats? Wyatt W. The probability of someone watching you is directly proportional to the stupidity of your actions. Quote
+DustyJacket Posted April 1, 2003 Posted April 1, 2003 this new one makes 28, but is is "replacing" and active one, so when/if the active one goes away, we'll be back at 27. DustyJacket Not all those that wander are lost. But in my case... Quote
+phantom4099 Posted April 1, 2003 Posted April 1, 2003 I was thinking that there was 27, then the one launched in jan, and in march made it 29. But I am not sure ho many went out of service, or if there was 27 before jan. Wyatt W. so as you can see I am confused. Kerry. Posted April 1, 2003 Posted April 1, 2003 As of April 1, there's 28 operational not including this new one. Also appears PRN17 has been "moved" in the past few days to a different plane/slot so that this new one can be put where PRN17 used to be (D3). Cheers, Kerry.
