cryptic1
How many people can get indoor reception? I have a Garmin GPS 76 and I can easily get 3D locks in buildings. However, I have some difficulty on the bus. Quote Link to comment
+mrp
I have a legend with it's little patch antenna, and I can get a lock inside my house (1 story, tar&gravel roof), but not at my parents house (2 story, asphalt shingle roof). I also can't get a lock in any building with a metal roof (e.g. CostCo, HomeDepot, etc.) So.. I can get in some door, but not others. But this wasn't a poll option. -- Mitch Quote Link to comment
+benjamin921
Well after I got my GPS III+ I was playing with the GPS and went into the "reading room" and got a signal. Didn't think that I could but there it was. Kinda cool. Quote Link to comment
Mossy Oak
I have a Magellan 315; in my office at work I’m at least 20 - 25 feet to the nearest window. I can get 2D within a minute providing the GPS on, on the way to work. To get 3D it may take several minutes. Quote Link to comment
+ClayJar
I *can't* get reception in my 1-story abode (tar and gravel roof), but I *can* get reception in my parents home (asphalt shingle roof). I guess it all depends, eh? Quote Link to comment
Kerry.
That's an open ended question and depends on so many variables that antenna's really are only a minor issue. Something the system is absolutely not spec'd for at all. Cheers, Kerry. I never get lost everybody keeps telling me where to go Quote Link to comment
peter
So how do I check all four responses? Depending on the type of building and roof construction I can get anywhere from solid reception on >7 satellites down to no detectable signal at all. Of my four receivers, two have quad-helix antennas and two have the patch type. The best reception under marginal conditions is with one of the patch antennas. The other patch and one of the quad-helix are tied for second just a little bit behind. The worst reception by far is with the second quad-helix antenna. Quote Link to comment
+GOT GPS?
My Platinum is excelent at getting reception where the GPS V comes short. Interesting to walk around the house with the satellite screen showing. I get 3 or 4 sats. My home page about GPS units and information Quote Link to comment
+Wander Lost
I can usually get a 3D lock inside with my Handspring Visor/Magellan GPS combo. Sometimes as many as 6-7 birds. But as other people have said, it depends on the building. If ignorance is bliss, why aren't there more happy people?? Quote Link to comment
+Frolickin
I have had no problem with the two GPS units I have had at my home. I lose sat lock at work indoors, however. That, I am certain, is due to all the concrete and the lack of windows in the area I have my office.
