+TEAM BUBBA Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 Took advantage of the deal at Frys on the meridain and 128 card. My question is.Is it possible to download a map onto unit and then add more later when I download a 2nd map it erases the first and I really dont want to have to do 128 at once. Thanks TEAM BUBBA Quote
+TeamCNJC Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 If you upload via the serial cable, you'll overwrite the previous map. You can, however, purchase an SD/MMC card reader/writer, upload several maps to the card in a fraction of the time it takes to do a serial upload. I haven't looked in a while, but they're pretty cheap. BTW, you can have multiple map sets on an SD card, but not with serial uploading. -Craig/TeamCNJC ... +headmj Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 Yu can save the maps directly to the card using a USB card reader. I beleive you can also save the existing map under a different name before you upload the new region Quote

The non-card reader method is as follows: Select a region in MapSend and download it to your Meridian. On the Meridian, under card utilities, save the current map to the card giving it a name that refers to the region in some way.Repeat the above two steps for as many regions as you want to store (limited by memory card size). Now, when ever you want to change maps, you can go to card utilities and load in the map region you want. Also note that you can do the same for waypoints (i.e. download waypoints, save them by name, clear the waypoints, download another set, save them by name...). This way you can load a region in, and load the corresponding waypoints for the region. --Marky "Everyone spends time in the darkness, dreamers learn to steer with a backlit GPSr" Quote
+TEAM BUBBA Posted December 9, 2002 Author Posted December 9, 2002 ok I got the reader and got it working right. But what Marky says has brought up another ? I cant figure out how to change the names on the maps using the unit like he says. Quote
+JetSkier Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 You have to change the name of the .img file using the card reader. The Card Utilities menu item on the GPS only allows you to choose which map file (*.img) you want to use as your detailed map. Quote
justincredible76 Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 just curious. was the 128 card part of the deal? If so, I got jipped. If not, how much did you pay for the card? What does a reader cost? Will check at Fry's tomorrow. Quote
+TEAM BUBBA Posted December 9, 2002 Author Posted December 9, 2002 no the card doesnt come with it but only paid 59 for the 128 scandisk brand. And I paid 40 for the reader writer but that wasnt at Frys and it is a universal reader so it will do all the different types of cards. Quote
