gd68865
I starting to feel that our new Cobra GPS 500 may not be working properly, as we have yet to successfully aquire a satellite with it. Even on bright clear sunny days, it seems to refuse to make an aquisition. Are there any other Cobra GPS 500 users out there that are experiencing the same thing? I knew we should have gotten a Garman or Magellen! Any suggestions as to what we may be doing wrong? Quote Link to comment
Brasileiro
I've played around with the Cobra gps a little bit. I did get satelite lock, but the problem I had was that the gps was telling me that I was moving about 16 mph when in reality I wasn't moving at all. After that I haven't wanted to learn anymore about them. You should have went with your first impression and bought a Garmin or Magellan. Maybe you can still return it? Quote Link to comment

Take it outside where it can get a good view of the sky, and leave it there for an hour. If you still can't get a lock after that, I'd contact Cobra. "Don't mess with a geocacher. dobelady
I had the same problem. Got the unit through airmiles, and had a grand first day geocaching with 2 finds. Satellite locks were fast. Used it for a couple more days and then it simply stop being able to lock onto satellites. Or if it did manage to lock onto 3 it would continue searching, although it should have been able to start navigating at that point. I contacted Cobra who immediately replied that they'd not had problems with that issue and suggested I return it for exchange. Waiting for the replacement as we speak. Quote Link to comment
+Byron & Anne
I sure hope Cobra has changed between my last contacts with them and now. About 20 years ago I benchmarked some of thier products and we also delt, briefly, with one their manufacturing sites. I won't go into gory details. nuf said. +Johnnie Stalkers
We have had the Cobra 500 for about 6 weeks now. It is the only GPSr I have ever used so I have nothing to compare it to, but it has worked fine for us. New, out of box with batteries it acquired in about 90 seconds. I'd say you've got a problem, make sure the batteries are in correctly then send it back. Understand what? My purpose? You know that. To find the Tower is my purpose. I'm sworn. -Roland, The Gunslinger Quote Link to comment
