Garmin V owners chime in

Recommended Posts

We got our new Garmin V the first of July. We have used it for geocaching, and also found it very useful on our vacation to Washington, DC a few weeks ago. It sure was great having the DC detailed map downloaded. If we got lost, (a frequent occurance), it quickly got us back on track. We didn't have the capability to download detailed maps on the road, so we just used the base maps for the drive from Texas to DC, and for navigating other areas on the trip.

With the weather so hot here in Texas lately (over 100 frequently), we haven't used it much for geocaching here, but used it to find almost 40 caches on our trip (mostly virtuals... we took it easy, plus most of the ones in the DC area are virtuals).

We are sending our old Garmin 12 to college with our daughters (they will have to take turns, they go to different universities) so they can go geocaching in their areas, now.

My 1st GPS was the V, I use it for long distance driving to giveme pretty good time estimates and kind of as a count down for miles, as always allowing it to set the route is nice. I have a setup in my truck with a amplified antanae and power source to run the backlight indefinitely at night without sucking up the batteries. I use my Vista to Geocache, and got my III pilot for the plane.
