Garmin 12 data cable question

Well, I finally decided to break down and buy the data cable and see what all this GPS to PC data-flow is all about.

So I get the cable home, open it up, and find that there is only a connector on one end, the one to the GPS. All I have are 3 wires coming out the other end.

Now what? Serial, USB? Where do I get the connectors, Radio Shack? And how do I know which wires go where?

I am bummed. I thought I would get a complete cable ready to use. Help?

If you haven't already been to Joe Mehaffey's web site you need to check it out. It has a wealth of information on GPS and links to all sorts of other GPS related sites. He has a page that shows the wiring for the Garmin round connector (GPS12 and many others).

You should be able to get the connector at Radio Shack. You need a female DB-9 connector for connection to the serial port on your PC.
