Does any know the pin out combinations for the Magellen Data Cable? I contacted Magellen to buy one but they are on back order for 2 monthes and I dont want to wait that long...

I have seen the pinout somewhere on the forums, but don't remember where.

 

There are many gps sellers who also sell these cables and they are readily available.

 

I've wondered about folks who make their own cables...the fastener on the back of the gps seems so proprietary, I can't imagine that a very effective homemade model could be fashioned, but maybe I'm wrong.

use a 9 pin serial cable from a old mouse cable.On the PC part of the cable,looking at the cable pins ...

 

pin #2 : data out

pin #3 : data in

pin #5 : Grnd

 

In back of the GPS Mag315

 

3.8 V (+)---> O...O <---[-)Grnd

screw ..------> o

data in ---> O.......O <--- data out

 

Take the screw from the mouse cable where it screws in the PC serial port.It fits perfectly in the threads of the GPS.

In addition to the last posting, I've used for my 315 a phone wall box, took all the connectors out. The empty box fits snuggly to the width of the 315. I even cut it more out to fit perfectly. I use screws for the contacts. I neatly wrapped black carpet tape around it and from a distance it looks nice and its functional.
