Guest acalder
Hey all! A friend of mine is leaving the country and is selling his GPS II ($100 Cdn), which I was thinking of buying. I was just wondering if anyone had any opinions on the unit? I have been thinking about buying one for a couple of weeks now, and I had my heart set on the Garmin Legend...but I don't know that I can justify the cost ($450 Cdn). So, I guess my question: Should I buy this one now or should I wait and save up for the better unit? Thanks, Alistair Quote Link to comment
Guest mcb
If the unit is a Garmin II then you might be a bit disapointed with the reception in tree cover. The II was an older 8 channel multiplexing unit. This makes it a little less accurate then the modern 12 channel parallel units. From personal experience with the unit I know that it does not get good reception under tree cover. Its not a bad price I think 100Cdn would be about 70-75US and thats not to bad. Now if it is a Garmin II+ (<-note the plus) then jump on it. The II+ would be an awsome unit for Geocaching. It has the same receiver that the III+ has and does very well in tree cover and has lots of nice feature as far as a non-moving map unit goes. Hope that helps mcb Quote Link to comment
Guest n1niq
t in that the GPS II is a generation or two behind the current technology. I use one and have been very happy with it in Geocaching and mountainbiking. It seems to be a little more durable than my friend's Etrex but its also a bit more awkward to carry around because of the shape. Overall, I would say if the cost of the GPS II is less than 75% of the Etrex I would buy the II. Otherwise the Etrex would probably be the better deal. I hope this helps. Chris Quote Link to comment
