+LaPaglia
The software package Im using gives me a HDOP reading on the SAT page. when its unlocked the number is 50.0. Normal locked reading is 2.3-3.7 Tonight I had 0.9 reading for about 20 minutes. Am I correct in assuming that the lower the number the more accurate the GPS is at that point. Also, at what number do I throw it in and wait for better Sat lock? is 6 to high? 10? Additionaly, another package uses PDOP, Are the different? Thanks Lapaglia "Muga Muchu" (forget yourself, focus). +apersson850
DOP = Dilution of Position HDOP = Horizontal VDOP = Vertical PDOP = Positional, i.e. a combination of H and V. The bigger the figure, the worse it is. If DOP is, say, four, you are four times as confused about where you are, compared to when it's one. The estimated error, from the signals in space, is multiplied with the DOP to get the final estimated positional error. When you want to cut out depends on what you are doing. If you are looking for a small cache, a DOP of 2 -3 may be large. If you are looking for a battleship, a DOP of 20 may not prevent you from locating it. Anders Quote Link to comment
Kerry.
PDOP & HDOP are different with HDOP being less than PDOP. The SPS specifications require a PDOP of 6 or less but that's also in conjunction with some other system conditions and constraints. Cheers, Kerry. I never get lost everybody keeps telling me where to go Quote Link to comment
