Hi all,

I am eager to get started with this. I am going to purchase a GPS unit soon

(tomorrow!)

Of the magellan 315 (320/330?), and the Garmin Legend, which unit is better

for the beginner? I want to have onscreen maps. are they free with the

magellan units? I have to buy a CD for the Legend, right?

Do all these units connect to a PC with a serial/usb cable?

I'd like to be able to connect it to my Casio e-115 PocketPC. (Anyone doing

this?

I've been reading the posts here, and my having no experience with these

types of units kind of makes it a little confusing.

Any help is appreciated!

I'll ring in for the Legend.

I am a beginner and have the Legend ..I seem to be having no trouble learning it. The Legend has a base map when you buy it that has all the US highways and major local roads. I did buy the metroguide CD so I could see my street show up on the base map.

The Legend does have a cable to hook up to the PC which is a serial cable.

I wouldn't know how to hook up to the PDA

To hook up your gps to you pda - you will need to get a special cable or hook up your serial gps connector to your serial pda cradle through a null modem adapter (you might need a gender changer too). But what you can do with this setup - I have no idea. Also I don't know about usb.

I'll ring in for the Magellan MAP 330, but I'll also add that if you can hold out for a few more weeks, the Magellan Meridian Gold will be out, and if you're looking for waterproof in addition to being a Magellanophile's dream, it's going to be sweet (and it can use memory cards to expand its map capabilities).

Does anyone have any $$$ figures for the Meridian Series? The Platinum has caught my eye, but with all those extras, GOTTA be mucho dinero. I am betting $400+ No way I am laying down that kind of scratch for a GPS, especially when my 330 works smashingly.

I've heard street $250 for the Meridian GPS and street $300 for the Meridian Gold, but I've also heard Magellan said the prices were undecided as of yet.

I'm thinking seriously about going from my MAP 330 to a Meridian Gold. I love my MAP 330, but having the MG's IPX7 rating is a strong plus around Louisiana. (It'd be nice to not have to worry about keeping my GPS dry in the rain, since there's a lot around here.)
