EasyGPS & Etrex Legend

1) I am trying to load data from easygps to my Legend. Its a new GPSR so its my first try and the manual seems to be lacking in details of how to use the data cable with a pc. I've got easygps loaded and it seems to be running ok. When I test the connnection using easygps it seems to see that the serial cable is connected but it doesn't see the Legend. What serial format should be set on the Legend? Are there any other settings I should verify on the GPSR?

 

2) Next question. Can the Legend export waypoint or track files out to a text file without using software such as easygps. My goal is to download data and convert it into shape files for use in ArcInfo GIS software.

 

Assistance on either of these questions will be appreciated.

If you've got a hot-sync program of some sort pointing to your serial port, be sure you disable it (the program) before trying to communicate. It took me a couple of hours to figure that one out...
