+leatherman Posted August 10, 2002 Posted August 10, 2002 What are your expectations?. What bag? Ziploc bag, white water rafting gear bag? Come on what kind of question is that? Preperation, the first law to survival. Quote
peter Posted August 10, 2002 Posted August 10, 2002 I use an Aquapac (http://www.aquapac.net/) bag for my eMap when kayaking. They have a variety of sizes and appear to be wellmade. Cost was about $25. For hiking and bicycling I either use a 'snack-size' ziplock or just hold it so the battery compartment cover doesn't get wet. Quote
+avaloncourt Posted August 11, 2002 Posted August 11, 2002 I also have an aquapac and it works very well. Quote
Alphawolf Posted August 11, 2002 Posted August 11, 2002 I really like the aquatech lite! It easily holds enough gear for an extended river trip. I have never once had wet clothes using this bag, even though I have put it in the river more than once. My wife likes the purple color too! Quote
+fizzymagic Posted August 11, 2002 Posted August 11, 2002 See this topic. These cases are better than bags, for about the same price. I have one for my GPS and one for my camera. Quote

+raouljan Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 I know that this topic is a bit old, but had to ask the question. Given how waterproof GPSrs are nowdays - for what do you need a bag? Quote
+GOT GPS? Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 Water will find it's way in somewhere on your GPS. Alot of times it is the battery compartment that gets wet. Ive gotten wet batteries in the GPS V when it got wet. Here is a bag: One on the right is the box that is talked about. ------------------------ My home page about GPS units and information Quote

I've seen for GPS rcvrs. is IPX7: one meter depth for 30 minutes, and even that frequently excludes the battery compartment. That should be fine for most geocaching, but I still keep seeing reports in sci.geo.satellite-nav from people whose IPX7 rated units failed just due to rain or light splashing - so I take the IPX7 claim with some skepticism. Sitting on the deck of my kayak, the GPSr is subject to getting hit by dumping waves that exceed the penetrating force of the IPX7 spec. and I certainly don't want salt water getting into even the battery compartment and corroding the contacts. Aquapac claims their smaller pouches have passed tests for 30 minute immersion at 40 meters and they add flotation for the many GPSr models that could otherwise sink. It seems like worthwhile extra insurance to me whether I'm using my non-waterproof eMap or my IPX7-rated III+. Quote
