Suddenly unknown location

I put my first two trackables over a year ago. One ended up in South Australia where it was listed in an old cache from 2007 and it looks like when owner hasn’t logged on since 2022.

Well my trackable stayed there till now. It suddenly disappeared out of the cache and is in a “unknown location” and no one found the cache for a while. What could have possibly happened?

It could have happened if either you or the Cache Owner marked the Trackable missing and next deleted the log.  You would know if it was you, so maybe it was the CO.  Not sure how the site wouldn't show the login in that case, but Last Visited is not a great way to know if someone is still caching, nor actively monitoring their caches.

Agree with Kunarion, sounds like 'someone' deleted their log after marking it missing.

The CO found a few caches after their 'last logged' date, one even in 2023.  Maybe using a phone now?  No need to log in with a phone...

I think there's only two ways to get a trackable into the "Unknown Location": the cache a trackable is in gets archived, or someone marks the trackable as missing. We know the former didn't happen, so it must have been marked as missing. If you didn't do it, then the only other person who can is the owner of the cache where the trackable is listed as being located.

If someone else marked your trackable as missing, you should have received an email notification for that log. I just checked and confirmed that I've received those in the past. Maybe check spam folders in case the email got blocked. If you find the email, you can follow the link to the respective log and see if it has been deleted.

My money is on the CO marking it as missing, and then for some reason deleting that log. Maybe it was actually there after all and they thought that deleting the "Mark Missing" log would undo their mistake (it doesn't).

Just check my email - both normal and spam, I never received anything from Geocaching. The reason why I know this happened as I had a mission to help my trackable on Project CG and it had sent me an email. I never (as you all guessed correctly) did anything. I never marked as missing. So my guess is you are right and the CO was the one to do it and deleted the log.
