+tirediron
Hi again all, just wondering if it is possible to use a parallel to serial cable to connect an eTrex Legend to a system running WinXP? Off hand, I can't think of a good reason why not, but I know nothing about GPS transfer protocol. If it is possible, would it be a null-modem/cross-over cable, or a straight-through that would be required? I would be using the connection for firmware updates, Easy GPS, and Mapsource data transfers. Quote Link to comment
+SpongeRob
I would say just give garmin a call. I'm not sure it would work. Mapsource had a patch for the USB version, but I don't think they have a paralell port version. Serial & Paralell ports differ quite a bit in overall communications so it may be necessary to have more than just a pin adapting plug. -- SpongeRob rwmech@keenpeople.com www.keenpeople.com WPWU826 Cache'n Retrievers Quote Link to comment
+tirediron
appreciate the info. I had a look at the protocol specs (Garmin is actually good enough to post them on their site) and it doesn't look like it would work. There seem to be some "unique" adaptations of the serial protocol, but hey, for $10 vs $60, it was worth a try.. Quote Link to comment
