+Weber_and_Sons Posted June 13 Posted June 13 My favorite type of cache (so far) is a 3 or 3.5 difficulty cause their usually clever and fun, give you a good search, they don't take to long, and your not looking for a nano in a hay stack; I live in a small town where there is only one 3 and one 3.5 and there is a lot of room for cache so what are some 3 or 3.5 ideas? +brekkcaching123 Posted June 13 Posted June 13 A silver magnetic nano on silver bleachers! Another type I like is a fake electrical box. Quote
+dimwit61 Posted June 16 Posted June 16 I go to the local hardware store and often find the kinds of things that work well, a fake survey markers, a solar powered light, fake drain pipes, homemade signs. 1 Quote

Fake electrical box geocaches are going to lead to real electrocutions. Goodness knows how many real sprinklers have been unscrewed by people thinking they were fake sprinkler geocaches. 2 1 2 Quote

The person who gave it to me (a non-geocacher) believed that it would be perfect as a cache anywhere. "Set it on any lawn, or on a sidewalk or parking lot, nobody would bother it... the perfect hide!" Except that everyone would bother it. Landscapers, Muggles, and anyone who observes a Geocacher picking up and "opening" poop and placing it back on the sidewalk. It is in fact tricky to set up a spot where it would work as a cache, with any expectation of longevity. Can't even set it up "at the dog park"... especially not there! Also, the "fake poop" is a key hider, no room for a low-maintenance container, so I attached it on top of a Lock-N-Lock. It's now in a small forest area, and actually is kind of hard to find with that... um... camouflage. Some things that seem perfect are often quite difficult to turn into low-maintenance Geocaches. I received an 8 inch tall fiberglass fake rock and placed it among similar-looking rocks in the garden of a nature area's office, which is closed at night. That expensive rock somehow never got stolen, it worked pretty well in a low-traffic area, but it became somewhat muggled by Geocachers who couldn't figure out how to "place a fake rock over a container just like they found it". If a fake camo item is displaced, it may next become totally Muggled and lost. Edited June 17 by kunarion 2 Quote

Slightly visible but I've seen people walk past all the time without noticing. Quote
+JL_HSTRE Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Some of these comments reminded me that many years ago I was gifted a couple of nano-size plastic cubes with pennies glued flat to the top as camo. I have never had the slightest clue where to safely put them where they wouldn't get muggled or accidentally buried. Quote

The other thing to consider is whether the area around the hide location is durable enough to withstand the kind of repeated intensive searching that a high-difficulty, well-camouflaged, in-plain-sight cache is going to generate. I love high-difficulty, well-camouflaged, in-plain-sight caches. But I've also seen the damage that can be done when such caches are hidden in areas that are not durable enough to withstand the searching that goes along with such caches. 1 1 Quote

I got in trouble at a local hockey stadium. I was looking for a cache and opened the electrical box for the big sign in front of the stadium. Opps...it wasn't in there and I had to explain what I was doing. They had a good laugh at my expense. After they figured out I wasn't a terrorist, they lost interest in me and I went and found the cache, it was a tough one to find. It was a Nano Tube with a small white rock glued to the top and then stuck in the ground. It took me an hour to finally figure it out. Quote
