+viennesewaltz Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Hello, I asked this question a few years ago and I'm posting again to see if I get any new and interesting suggestions. I've got a couple of days free in London coming up and I'd like to spend them geocaching. Can anyone recommend me a part of London that has a good number of interesting caches? I'd like to log as many finds as possible in the time so I'm mainly interested in traditionals, I don't want to spend time figuring out complex multis. I will have an all-zones travelcard but I don't want to spend too much time going from place to place, I'd rather stay in one area and walk from one cache to the next. Last time I asked this question someone recommended a stretch around the Golden Hinde and HMS Belfast which was excellent, so i'm open to further suggestions along those lines. Many thanks. Quote
+mellers Posted June 5 Posted June 5 If it's numbers you're after, you ask the question at a fortuitous time, given that there has just been a Block Party event in the capital (a couple of weeks ago) and many of the caches placed for it, still remain. In fact, most are still in excellent condition. I've looked for a bookmark list for them all and without finding something helpful, wonder if you'd like to search for them, using some common part of the name. There is a whole 58-puzzle cache series South of the Thames, with the prefix LC25 ~ and starting with this one: https://coord.info/GCAZ2WF In addition, two challenge cache series; one prefixed 'Monumental Challenge' and starting here https://coord.info/GCB5VRW has 13 dotted around North of the Thames and the other prefixed '25 YOLO' and starting at https://coord.info/GCB2MD3 heads for a gorgeous 27-cache cycle ride or walk, around the Greenwich Peninsula. The 'monumental' series has the advantage of being in a similar area to this rare old series https://coord.info/GCM8PZ Jack the Ripper 7 - Jack's Hideaway which could net you 7 very old finds if you get them all. Of course, if you stick to the tourist hotspots such as that around Trafalgar Square, you'll find more virtuals https://coord.info/GC7B73B and earthcaches https://coord.info/GC7B73B than you can shake a big stick at. Tower Bridge area https://coord.info/GC9P5GE would be another good starting point for something similar and Parliament Square has a large selection https://coord.info/GC9P8AK. If you prefer trads, the A2L series gives you 31 hides in a long 5-mile walk, https://coord.info/GCANZWH A personal recommendation is this one https://coord.info/GC7QEJJ for fun - there are a few trads and a virtual within walking distance. I note that you mention preferring to walk from cache to cache but I would certainly recommend investigating any of the bike-hire apps (https://www.li.me/en-gb/locations/london or https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/cycling/santander-cycles) which you can hop on and hop off from, between tube stops. This will seriously reduce your point-to-point travel time beteween cache hides and enable you to cram in more cachey goodness! 1 Quote
