+kenttela Posted May 8 Posted May 8 For the life of me I can't seem to find how to set a home screen on my desktop for geocaching.com. In other words when I first log into geocaching.com the location that appears is not where I want to start every day. I have cleared cookies thinking that would solve the problem, but every day or every time I log in the opening location is 100s of miles away. It is the same location each time, so I'm sure there is some setting that I just can't find. Thanks for any help. Quote

You've checked your location on your settings to make sure it's where you want it to be? The Chief requires we change our home location on a daily basis, so it's one of the features of the website I use the most. Edited May 8 by Max and 99 Quote
+kenttela Posted May 8 Author Posted May 8 Thanks. I've done that. I just did it again. I closed Geocacing.com, loaded it again, and ending up in Louisville!! Many miles away from where I am, but at aa different location from where I usually show up. Quote
Moun10Bike Posted May 9 Posted May 9 I've confirmed that you've set your home coordinates to Florida. Can you give more details on what page you are accessing when you say you see it loading miles from the proper location? Quote
+kenttela Posted May 9 Author Posted May 9 When i enter geocaching.com the map takes me to near N 35° 07.791 W 111° 45.495 instead of near N 29° 00.522′ W 80° 58.007′. The latter is what is on the home location of my profile. The link displayed under "Set Map Preferences" is http://coord.info/map?ll=35.127667,-111.752104&z=14 I assume that is what needs to be changed, but it will not change. Or, at least, I can't find where to change it permanently. I really appreciate the help. Quote
Moun10Bike Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Are you using a saved bookmark link to go to the map, or are you going straight to https://www.geocaching.com/map/? 2 Quote
+kenttela Posted May 9 Author Posted May 9 The above reply gave me the answer. I had been going to geocaching.com. I add the /map and all is well. Thank you do much. I need to pay more attention to URLs. 1 Quote
+kenttela Posted June 6 Author Posted June 6 The problem is still there. I'm using Brave with several tabs open. When I boot up at the beginning of the day and open the tab for Geocaching it continues to load a map that is in Arizona. I delete that from the URL hit enter and all is well. Does that make sense? When you open your Geocaching tab, it obviously has url data in it that is causing the view you get. What IS the full url for your "tab for Geocaching"? Is this a bookmark, or a 'remembered' tab from the previous session of Brave? Quote
+kenttela Posted June 8 Author Posted June 8 It isn't a bookmark. It must be "a remembered tab". Now my question is how do I tell Brave to remember my home location. I have an idea which I'll try now. Thanks. Quote

I have an idea which I'll try now. Thanks. The issue isn't getting it to remember a location. The issue seems to be that the "remembered" tab is remembering an address such as: https://www.geocaching.com/map/#?ll=47.5987,-122.35594&z=13 ...which is always going to point the map to that location (Seattle in this example). What you really want to access is: https://www.geocaching.com/map or even just: https://www.geocaching.com If you describe where you're clicking in Brave that gets you to the wrong spot, someone might be able to describe how to "unremember" that and save the correct address instead. +kenttela Posted June 9 Author Posted June 9 i click on Brave. It opens with three tabs. One tab is for Geocaaching. I click on that tab and it takes me to a map page that is very far away from where I am. I backspace the URL until it just shows https://www.geocaching.com/map. I hit enter and it takes me to my location. I have deleted cookies and the history. I turn the computer off. The next day I boot up, click on Brave and the map is back at the far away location. Why? The "home" location is set to my location in the settings for the Geocaching page. Quote

I've had it as my start page forever, no issues. I did a Play "search" based on a cache close to where I live, then tweaked the results and sorted them to show just what I'd like to see when "Geocaching.com" starts... basically a list of local caches sorted to most recently found. That's my "start page", a bookmark of the search results. I even could select the "Map Geocaches" button to show both a map and my sorted list my start page. Edited June 9 by kunarion Quote

If you go into Brave's settings (hamburger menu at the top-right > Settings), in the "Get started" section, under "On startup", is it set to "Open a specific page or set of pages"? If so, it should list the sites that are automatically opened when you start Brave. One of those may be for geocaching.com (probably truncated to "https://www.geo..." in the view). If you click the three dots beside that and click Edit, you can remove the last part of the URL that's causing it to open to the wrong location and have it open https://www.geocaching.com/map instead, which will default to using your home location. 2 Quote
+kenttela Posted Wednesday at 09:27 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 09:27 PM That should do the trick!! I really appreciate the help. I can see I need to dig into Brave a bit more. I have another problem that is very minor. I bet I can find the solution. Thank you very much. Quote
