Messaging center changes

The messaging center on the app looks different today. I don't remember a box being that outlined (framed), it doesn't auto capitalize the first letter of every sentence, and I can't force a line break by hitting return.

Okay here's another weird thing, caught by CAVinogal:

When I message someone, the messages show right aligned on my app but not theirs. 

When someone else messages me, their messages to me are right aligned on their app but not mine.

Confirmed, I just updated to v. 9.76.0, no auto-cap on the first word in a sentence (first word after a period), no "return" to create a line break, and also, my messages, written by me, seem to be right-aligned, and those from others are left-aligned.  They all should all be left-aligned. IMO.

 

I see Max and 99 has just reported the same thing.  Weird.

Same here. I wonder if the changes are intentional or a bug. Whichever it is, please return it to the way it was. This new system is awful!!

I checked with the team, this is an unexpected side effect of a recent update to Message Center on mobile, the team is working on a fix.

The message center is acting really really bad right now.  I've tried sending multiple messages to people and most just disappear after I hit send. Very very bad. I'm starting to wonder if attaching a photo is what's causing the problem. They just disappear!!

My issues are also on Android.  Sending a message with a photo attached results in the message disappearing entirely.  Waiting for a response to see if the recipient received it.

 

Update - Recipient never received the message.  It seems attaching a photo makes the message disappear into the ether...

And now attaching photos and/or screenshots is working, again.  The issues of alignment, and no auto caps after a period remain at this point.

I have the same issue since the last update. Lately, the updates seem to make the GC-App's performance worse than better 🙄

It appears that some functions have been disabled with the new advent of right aligned text in the app message center. Sentences no longer start off with automatically capitalized letters. And the enter button has gone away, and all it says now is next. So I can't do line breaks anymore.

 

Screen shot: note the shift arrow is not blue, so the message will start off lower case. Also note that where are the enter button, with the carriage return looking arrow, has turned into a blue "next," making line breaks impossible.

My messages with photos are disappearing again. Possibly, it's because I'm in the middle of nowhere with no service, so I'll check again when I'm back home. 

Edit: messages with photos are getting through just fine today so maybe it was just no cell service causing yesterday's issue.

I don't know whether it's tied in with this or a separate issue, but I've stopped getting Message Centre notifications again. I have version 9.76.1 on a Samsung Galaxy A52.

I echo most of the same issues as the previous users (Android). I haven't had trouble with sending photos but I normally do that from my computer. Also, whenever I send a message it appears for a couple of seconds as if the person I am messaging has sent it (instead of me).

(Android / Samsung user here.)

 

I would like the ability to have returns / line breaks in my messages again.

It is irritating when I want to send someone a list or separate points of conversation via a geomessage such as, and have to turn it into some long run-on sentence, full of separate points of information, or else send them a separate message for each point, which results in them getting a series of email notifications instead of just one.

 

I have no opinion of right aligned text or not. Put another way, I do not see a reason for it.

Mine is an Android. My friend who has an Apple and he doesn't have that issue.

I feel like it's really annoying. I'm very picky about grammar and punctuation (don't judge I have to work with language a lot😂)and I hate when I send a message it's default is lowercase.

Another MC issue I've noticed.

I wanted to send answers to the CO of an earthcache.

In the app, I click Log Cache then Send Answers. I type my answers and click the tick in the top right corner (Android). It says "Sent".

When I check the MC, my message has disappeared into the ether!!!!

Frustrating! 🤪

What's even more frustrating is you don't realize that it didn't send! This has happened to me several times since these issues started. 

It's probably not related but last week I got a notice that my log for an Earth Cache was going to be deleted since I didn't send answers and was violating the rules of geocaching. I always send the answers before logging, but this CO did not get any of them. Obviously something went wrong and now I know to check the message center and make sure the answers were actually sent! It was an intimidating message for me, but a lesson learned to check and make sure things get sent.

This is extremely frustrating. Messages with photos are disappearing again but I didn't know that at first. I thought it was fixed. Please fix!!!!

If you click the recipient's name somewhere else in the system (on the website, thus viewing their profile), then click "Send message", do you suddenly see the message?  But when you visit the Message Center home page, that whole thread is missing?  If so, you've got the same problem I reported recently.

I don't see the messages with photos that I sent them at all. Anywhere. Thank you for alerting me to check the website as well. I did follow your steps but didn't see the message at any stage.

I had to ask someone for their email address today just so I could send them photos that were disappearing from the message center.

I had to post my picture to an old archived cache, then mention the URL in a classic email-through-the-system.

 

I'm sure this affects more than just the forum regulars.  1000x?  Who knows.

I don't know what's going on. I got a message from someone, with an email backup. There's a dot showing up on my app message center. But the message is not there. 

However, when I click on that person's message thread on my app for the briefest of a second, the message flashes and then disappears. Okay, maybe he made a mistake and deleted it on his end. It happens. 

 

So I had a friend message me and then delete his message. That one shows up on my message center. So that's not it. 

 

I checked on the website message center and the message is not showing there either! 

 

Edit: I was able to do a screen record to capture the very very quick flash of the message. It flashes for a split second and then it's not there at all in the message center. So weird.  

 

And I can't do anything to make the notification dot go away.

Thanks for update. Looks as though this now sorted. Thanks to the techies.
