D's on display of Garmin Legend

Recommended Posts

Guest r-haus

I'm using a Garmin Legend. I've been noticing a 'D' showing up on some of the Satellite signal bars the last couple of days. Haven't found anything in the manual to explain them. Anyone have information as to what the 'D' indicates?

Thanks,

Kurt

It means that you have WAAS enabled and the GPSR is doing differential corrections on the other satellites based upon information received from the WAAS satellites. Basically, your accuracy is improved when the D is displayed.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to look more carefully next time.

My Legend manual does not mention the Ds either, so I downloaded the latest manual from their website: www.garmin.com. The new manual has all the details on WAAS. The D stands for "differential". It means you're receiving error-correction data for the GPS satellites from WAAS satellite 35 (in geosynchronous orbit over the Atlantic Ocean) or WAAS satellite 47 (over the Pacific). My legend often reports accuracy of 7 ft. when I have lots of Ds.
